Standing water in yard type searches

If water sits in your yard for hours (or days) after a rain, that’s not normal — it’s a grading or drainage problem that will only get worse. We diagnose the root cause — whether it’s poor lot grading, compacted clay, a high water table, or missing discharge from your gutter system — and design a targeted fix. Solutions range from simple regrading and channel drains to full French drain systems with buried discharge lines.

Standing Water Isn't Normal — It's a Drainage Problem With a Fix

If water sits in your yard for hours or days after a rain, that’s not just an inconvenience — it’s a sign of a drainage problem that will get worse over time. Standing water breeds mosquitoes, kills grass, erodes soil, and — most critically — saturates the clay soil around your foundation, which is how slabs crack and shift in Texas.

The good news: standing water is fixable. At Duck Works Aqua Management Solutions, we diagnose the root cause of your standing water problem — whether it’s poor lot grading, compacted clay, a high water table, or unmanaged roof runoff — and design a targeted solution that eliminates it. Every project starts with a free on-site drainage assessment.

Why Does Water Pool in Your Yard?

Standing water is a symptom, not a root cause. To fix it permanently, you have to identify what’s actually causing the water to collect — and in Texas, it’s usually one (or more) of these:

How urgent is it? If water regularly pools within 5 feet of your foundation, treat this as a priority. Every rain event that saturates the soil against your slab increases the risk of foundation movement. The longer you wait, the more expensive the fix becomes.

Our Process

How We Fix Standing Water Problems

01

Free On-Site Drainage Assessment

We inspect the entire property — not just the wet spots. We check lot grading, soil conditions, gutter and downspout discharge, existing drainage (if any), and how water moves across the property during rain. We'll also look at neighboring properties to understand if off-site water is contributing to your problem.

02

Root Cause Diagnosis

Standing water can have one cause or five. We identify every contributing factor so the solution actually works — not just for the next rain, but for the long term. Common findings: reversed lot grade near the foundation, downspouts dumping at the slab, compacted clay in high-traffic areas, missing or failed drainage infrastructure.

03

Custom Solution Design

Based on the diagnosis, we design a drainage plan using the right combination of solutions for your property. This might include French drains for subsurface water, yard drains for surface collection, buried downspouts to manage roof runoff, channel drains for hardscape areas, regrading for slope correction, or a combination of all of them.

04

Installation

Our crew installs the complete system — trenching, piping, grading, and surface restoration. We maintain proper slope on every pipe run, use commercial-grade materials, and install clean-out access points for future maintenance.

05

Verification & Walkthrough

We test the entire system by running water through it, confirm discharge is reaching the intended exit points, and walk you through everything we installed. You'll know exactly what's underground and how to maintain it.

Why Homeowners Call Duck Works for Standing Water

Craftsmanship That Lasts

A lot of drainage contractors will sell you a French drain whether you need one or not. We identify the actual cause of your standing water first, then recommend the right fix — even if that fix is simpler (and cheaper) than you expected.

Honest, Upfront Communication

Standing water problems often start on the roof, not in the yard. Because we install gutters, buried downspouts, and drainage systems, we solve the complete problem — not just the symptom you can see.

Protecting the Home First

We design every system for the expansive clay soils along the I-35 corridor. A drainage system that works in sandy soil will fail in Texas clay. We know the difference and build accordingly.

Ownership & Accountability

We’ll give you a detailed written estimate that breaks down exactly what we’re installing and what it costs. No vague “per linear foot” quotes that balloon on install day.

Respect for Your Home & Time

We’re a locally owned Texas company, not a franchise or a handyman with a trencher. We stand behind our work because our reputation depends on it.

FAQs

Standing Water

  • Can regrading alone fix my standing water problem?

Sometimes, yes — if the root cause is a simple grading issue and the water has a viable path to drain once the grade is corrected. But in most cases, regrading alone isn't enough because the underlying clay soil doesn't absorb water fast enough. We typically recommend regrading in combination with a French drain or yard drain system.

  • How much does it cost to fix standing water in my yard?

It depends entirely on the cause and the scope of the fix. A simple regrading or single drain line is a different project than a full French drain system with buried downspouts — and the pricing reflects that. We provide a detailed written estimate after your free on-site assessment so you know exactly what you're getting and what it costs before any work begins.

  • Will fixing the standing water also protect my foundation?

In most cases, yes. Drainage improvements that redirect water away from the house directly reduce the soil moisture fluctuations that cause foundation movement. Many homeowners come to us for a muddy yard and leave with foundation protection they didn't know they needed.

  • How long does a standing water fix take to install?

Most residential drainage projects are completed in 1–3 days depending on the scope. Simple regrading or a single drain line can be done in a day. Full-yard French drain systems with multiple drain inlets and buried downspouts typically take 2–3 days.
